Your go-to airplane outfit might be a safety hazard.
A travel expert is warning passengers against wearing leggings during flights, a popular yet seemingly comfortable choice for many.
Christine Negroni, a travel writer, told The Sun that leggings are one of the most dangerous items you can wear in the event of an emergency on board.
She explained that in situations like a cabin fire or a crash, leggings could result in severe scarring and even be fatal.
In such emergencies, Negroni pointed out, passengers may need to escape through a fire or dangerous conditions on the ground after evacuating the aircraft. She strongly advises against wearing synthetic fabrics like leggings, as they are more likely to burn and stick to the skin.
Instead, she recommends opting for cotton or other natural fibers to reduce the risk of injury.
Negroni also suggests keeping your shoes on during the flight, especially for takeoff and landing. While removing shoes is often debated, she believes passengers should always have footwear on in case of emergency.
“When escaping an aircraft, the floor could be hot, cold, covered in oil, or even on fire,” she said. “It’s best to be prepared with sneakers rather than high heels and wear natural fibers instead of synthetics. It’s all about being cautious.”
In short, choose snug-fitting clothes made of natural materials for the safest flight experience.
