McDonald’s McRib Sparks Outrage Over This Missing Ingredient

They’re definitely not McLovin’ it.

McDonald’s enthusiasts are taking a closer look at their beloved McRib and realizing it’s not quite what they thought. The twist? It doesn’t actually contain rib meat.

The fan-favorite sandwich, often celebrated for its smoky, BBQ flavor, features a patty made from seasoned, boneless pork shoulder. According to Taste, this pork is emulsified with water, spices, dextrose sugar, and preservatives to achieve its unique texture and taste—then molded into a rib-like shape.

To enhance the barbecue experience, liquid smoke and tangy BBQ sauce deliver the signature flavor, but there’s no traditional grilling involved.

While many adore the McRib, some have taken to Reddit to express their disillusionment, likening it to a “flat hot dog” or a “sausage on steroids.” Still, not all fans are deterred.

McRib is back sign

“I unashamedly love this thing even knowing what it is,” one loyal customer wrote. Another joked, “McShoulder… I’m lovin’ it.”

If you’re craving one, act fast—McDonald’s has brought back the McRib for a limited time as of December 3, 2024. This year, they’ve added a festive flair with a new jingle, “It Could Only Mean One Thing (McRib is Here),” and a music video to celebrate.

For those wanting to recreate the experience at home, McDonald’s is also selling a half-gallon jug of the iconic McRib sauce for $19.99. Decorated like a holiday sweater, it’s the perfect gift for die-hard McRib fans.

So, love it or leave it, the McRib continues to be a hot topic—and a hot commodity.
